Is your child experiencing any of these symptoms?

Evaluation and Assessment

Psychological Testing Services

At Positive Insights, we specialize in comprehensive pediatric psychological testing, focusing on early childhood assessment and the evaluation of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and ADHD, as well as learning disorders, anxiety, and depression. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for children, ensuring accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment recommendations.

Early Childhood Assessment: Early childhood is a critical period for development. Our early childhood assessment services are designed to identify any developmental concerns or delays, allowing for early intervention and support. Using standardized assessments and observation, we gain valuable insights into your child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development.

Neurodevelopmental Disorders Evaluation: We offer specialized assessments for neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Our comprehensive evaluations include an in-depth analysis of your child’s behavior, communication, social interactions, and cognitive functioning, providing a comprehensive understanding of their strengths and challenges.

Learning Disorders Assessment: If your child is experiencing difficulties in academic performance or shows signs of a learning disorder, our assessments can provide clarity. We assess areas such as reading, writing, math, and memory, helping to identify any specific learning challenges and develop targeted interventions.

Our assessments offer detailed and individualized recommendations for intervention and treatment.

Mental Health Assessment

For all of our clients, we begin with a Mental Health Assessment that allows us to understand the unique needs of each child and support their emotional well-being.

Our Mental Health Assessment Services for Children:

  1. Emotional Evaluation: Our emotional assessments focus on understanding your child’s feelings, emotions, and coping mechanisms. We aim to identify any emotional challenges that your child may be experiencing and provide appropriate support and intervention.
  2. Behavioral Assessment: Behavioral issues can often be indicators of underlying emotional concerns. Through behavioral assessments, we observe and analyze your child’s actions and interactions to gain insights into their emotional state and behavioral patterns.
  3. Social Interaction Assessment: Social skills are essential for a child’s development. Our assessments evaluate your child’s social interactions, communication skills, and ability to form and maintain relationships with peers and adults.
  4. Developmental Evaluation: For younger children, we offer developmental assessments to monitor their milestones and identify any potential developmental delays or concerns.

We take a comprehensive approach to assessment, considering various aspects of your child’s mental health and development. We actively involve parents and caregivers in the assessment process to gain a deeper understanding of your child’s needs and provide family support. Following the assessment, we provide individualized recommendations and strategies to support your child’s emotional well-being and growth.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a well-established method of treatment for children and teens facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress. It is guided by the belief that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected, so a change in one lead to a change in the others. We incorporate several CBT programs in our treatment (Trauma-Focused CBT, Coping Cat, CBT for Angry and Aggressive Children, and Coping Power).

Children communicate, learn and develop through their play, therefore, we use Play Therapy to help children work through their big emotions. During sessions, your child will explore toys, games and activities we select that help them process through difficult experiences to bring about healing. It is a beneficial treatment for those children challenged with anger management, grief and loss, divorce, crisis and trauma. It is also commonly used for children with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and academic and development disorders.

Animal Assisted "Pawsitive Play" Therapy

Animal Assisted Play Therapy

Called Pawsitive Play at Positive Insights, this type of therapy facilitates child-animal interaction for a specific reason and purpose within a child’s treatment. It promotes play and playfulness as the central component for exploring feelings, developing relationships, and resolving social and emotional challenges. Benefits include a reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved self-regulation, communication, trust building, cooperation, and motivation, as well as increased self-confidence, relational development, problem-solving skills, attention, and impulse control.

We partner with area school districts to support the social-emotional learning of children and teens dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, behavioral challenges, and loss. Being located within the schools allows for early identification, intervention, accessibility and convenience, and effective coordination. Positive Insights provides services in collaboration with school staff and in addition to the school-based services already in place.
